A filling or restoration replaces the part of a tooth weakened by decay, wear or a small fracture. Your dentist removes only what is necessary, restores the shape and checks the bite so the result feels like part of your natural smile.
Materials
Tooth-coloured composite is used for most restorations. Where a tooth has lost a large amount of structure, an indirect restoration or a crown may be a better long-term answer than an ever-larger filling.
Catching it early
A small filling done early is quicker, cheaper and kinder to the tooth than the root canal that the same cavity becomes if left alone. That is the entire argument for regular check-ups.
