When a wisdom tooth needs attention

The appointment
An X-ray is taken first to see the root shape and the position of nearby structures. The area is numbed thoroughly. Depending on the position of the tooth, the removal may be simple or may require a small surgical approach with stitches.
Recovery
Swelling peaks around day two and then subsides. Cold compresses, soft food, and the medication you are given cover most of it. Written aftercare instructions are given at the appointment — following them closely makes a real difference.
